Safeguarding

Total Train advises nationally concerning safeguarding and child protection, particularly concerning safeguarding vulnerable people during challenging behaviour, complex needs and general care or custody roles.

We act as an advisor to the national company eAWARE.

We have completed the NSPCC train the trainer course and we are a licensed safeguarding centre for The National Federation for Personal Safety.

All of our staff have backgrounds in safeguarding within statutory services

We are able to deliver a range of CPD accredited safeguarding courses in addition to our certificated courses.


Our courses include:

Level 1 awareness child protection/ safeguarding – 3 hours

For those staff who come into contact with children

Level 2 designated officer – 6 hours

For those staff who may have unsupervised access with children and/or are nominated as a point of contact for level 1 staff

Level 3 safeguarding Lead – 6 additional hours to level 2

For the safeguarding lead who may need to work with multi agencies and attend case conferences

Governor Training

4 additional hours in addition to level 1 for school/committee governors to enable them to conduct quality assurance checks of the level 3 person

PREVENT duty

2 hours awareness for staff who need to have a basic level of the PREVENT duty

Child Sexual Exploitation

2 hours awareness for staff who need to have a basic level of knowledge regarding child sexual exploitation

 Managing PREVENT and Child Sexual Exploitation CPD Level 2

This 1 day courses is designed for managers and safeguarding leads to enable them to be a point of contact for their basic awareness staff

Managing safeguarding CPD Level 2

This 1 day course is designed for managers and safeguarding leads to look at the strategic issues for their workplace such as their internal quality assurance processes for safeguarding service users and staff; and ensure if a staff member or processes were putting service users at risk that they are soon discovered and risk eliminated or reduced to the lowest level. 

Keeping children safe in education CPD level 2

This 1 day course is designed for education sector leads and governors to ensure they understand the Department of Education Guidance and the legal aspects of safeguarding. to look at the strategic issues for their workplace such as their internal quality assurance processes for safeguarding service users and staff; and ensure if a staff member or processes were putting service users at risk that they are soon discovered and risk eliminated or reduced to the lowest level

Achieving Best Evidence CPD Level 3

Our 5 day course teaches staff the knowledge and skills to plan for and conduct interviews with children or vulnerable adults

For those who need an awareness level knowledge of Achieving Best Evidence we offer a 2 day certificated course.

Managing and investigating allegations against staff CPD Level 2

This 1 day course is designed for managers and HR staff who may have to deal with allegations against staff for issues such as inappropriate behaviour or safeguarding incidents which statutory services are unwilling to deal with.

 Managing medications CPD Level 2

This 1 day course looks at issues for the work place concerning medications – from receipt, storage, administration, disposal, quality assurance checks, risks of fabricated illness and induced injury, overdose or administration errors etc.

If you have medications on site for service users then it’s an essential process to ensure safe and effective processes to ensure medications are stored correctly, in date, given to the right person, in the right dose, at the right time, with the right safeguards.

If a member of staff was stealing the medications for their own use how would you know? If a service user was overdosed how would you know?


Managing personal and intimate care – CPD level 2

This 1 day course is suitable for staff who are engaged in dealing with body fluids such as urine, faeces, vomit, blood and saliva, plus feeding. We look at the health, safety and safeguards for both the staff member and the service user.

From a health and safety point of view do staff have suitable and sufficient training and information to prevent contamination of themselves? Would they recognise signs of abuse on the service user whilst cleaning? If a staff member was abusing their position how quickly would the management find out? If a service user or their representative made a complaint of abuse how would the employee be able to protect themselves?

Deprivation of liberty – CPD Level 2

This 1 day course looks at the issues around deprivation of liberty. The Mental Capacity Act allows restraint and restrictions to be used in the persons best interests. This course is designed for safeguard leads and managers to recognise potential safeguard issues and review current safeguard processes and quality assurances.  

Educational Visits Coordinator

This 1 day course covers safeguarding and health, safety and welfare issues for staff involved in organizing educational visits for children.
